Ruth K. Mwanse and Nadir A. Nasidi will be delivering a presentation at CArtsCon 2021 entitled, “Linking Bridges Across Missing Cleavages: A Contextual Analysis of Salako Adebavo’s Yellow River Paintings“.
These scholars have found that there is a possibility of adopting the messages of popular culture in visual representations of reality, that popular culture, particularly music, can be used in painting as a social commentary, that the ‘Yellow Fever’ are set of paintings sequentially arranged to address a social and societal African problem, and that the recent works of Salako Adebayo are the visual deductions from the lyrical performances of Fela Kuti. Functionalist theory, which argues that social institutions are like a collective means for the satisfaction of individual needs, has been used as a theoretical framework for their study
