Dr. Nanyoung Kim
Dr. Nanyoung Kim received her Master’s and Doctorate degree in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before coming to the US to study art education, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Music (piano) and a Master’s degree in Aesthetics, both from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, and taught music in high school and art history in various Korean universities.
Nanyoung has been working as a Professor of Art Education at East Carolina University since 1999. Besides publishing theoretical articles, she often contributes articles on her art projects to Arts and Activities, a nationally renowned magazine for art teachers. Her research interests are in aesthetic education, design education, and history of art education.
Nanyoung’s major artistic medium was ceramic sculpture exploring architectural space and their human meanings. Her interest in architectural space led her to deeply appreciate Romanesque church architecture when she first visited the pilgrim churches in France in 2007. Every summer from then on she has continued travelling, studying, and photographing those structures in France, Italy, and Spain. Her photos are exhibited in numerous juried shows, and will also appear in our Art Exhibit.
For #CArtsCon2021, Nanyoung will present on Chinese porcelain and its influence on the world ceramic cultures.
