Rento (Finnish for ‘casual, relaxed, calm’)

Video: 5:39 sec., with English subtitles

My artistic idea for the final examination in the subject Visual Arts in May 2020 had developed into a concrete idea by March. I intended to make a composition of 15 square canvases. In doing so, I was to follow a concept that had already begun years earlier in the form of a playlist I had composed, which was to reflect the creative expression of my then difficult time. But it did not come to that, because the global state of emergency caused a spontaneous change in my life circumstances. Shortly before the border was closed in Italy, I travelled to Leipzig for a week and from there I flew on to Finland to visit my mother.

Due to this abrupt pandemic, my plans changed understandably. But I knew immediately what I had to do. For me, the nature of Finland is probably the closest connection to my inspiration. These were similar works, of which “Rento” is another example. The working method (woodcarving) and the source of inspiration (communication with nature) is the same as in the previous ones.
