Promise Friday Airhumwude will be delivering a presentation for the African Art and Craft Practitioners Association entitled, The Great Bini Bronzes Casting. The Bini (or Benin) Bronzes are a group of more than a thousand metal plaques and sculptures that decorated the royal palace of the Kingdom of Bini (Benin) in what is now modern-day Nigeria. Collectively, the objects form the best-known examples of Bini (Benin) art, created from the thirteenth century onwards, by the Edo people. Promise’s talk will focus on the molding, casting, and finishing processes.
Promise hails from Uhunmwonde, a Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. He is a Consultant/ Public Relations Officerto the African Art and Craft Practitioners Association, thefounder, artist, collector; instructor, consultant and tourist guide to Promise International Gallery, and an accredited vendor to the National Commission for Museums and Monuments. Promise is also an exhibitor with the National Gallery of Art and has exhibited both inside and outside of Nigeria.
